Highway 45 improvement project seeks public input

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on proposed improvements to U.S. Highway 45 from Gollnow Road in Shawano County to Waupaca County C in Clintonville. Construction is currently scheduled for 2023 but could occur as early as 2022. Proposed improvements include removing and replacing the existing asphaltic pavement; removing the gutter adjacent to the two-way left-turn lane; removing and replacing damaged curb and gutter sections at intersections and median areas; removing and replacing guardrail; repairing scour areas adjacent to three culverts; adding raised medians at intersection left-turn lanes; removing and replacing approach slabs at the bridge over the south branch of the Pigeon River; and repairing or replacing storm sewer inlets where required. During construction, Highway 45 will be open to traffic. Crews will either manage traffic using single-lane closures, or close one side for construction while the other side has bidirectional traffic. Staged construction or short-term closures at intersections may be necessary. Minor areas of new right of way or temporary easements may be required to accommodate grading in areas of guardrail upgrades and culvert repairs. Landowner rights information and a map of preliminary real estate impacts are available on the project website. The public is invited to review maps, a presentation and other information on the project website and provide input through Nov. 26. Residents, property owners and businesses in the area have been mailed a handout with a comment form that can be sent back to WisDOT. Questions and comments can be directed to WisDOT Project Manager Preston Bohn at 715-421-9736, or by email at Preston.Bohn@dot.wi.gov, or in writing to WisDOT North Central Region, 1681 Second Ave., Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54495.
