Gillett runners win M&O cross country meet

Lena/STAA girls win championship by one point

Gillett’s cross country team returned home from the Marinette & Oconto Conference Meet with a pair of individual championships.

Bradyn Wendorff and Hope Soper won the boys and girls races, respectively, Oct. 16 at Big Stone Golf Course in Three Lakes.

Meanwhile, Lena/STAA placed three runners in the top five to win the girls team championship.

Area runners also competed at Fox River Classic, Bay and North Eastern conference meets Oct. 16-18 at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

M&O

The Tigers didn’t field a complete team to compete for a boys championship, but the girls placed second and Gillett ended up placing six runners in the top 10.

Wendorff turned in a time of 16:39.1 to win the boys race, while Soper finished nine seconds ahead of teammate Amanda Pate in the girls race. Soper crossed the finish line in 20:50.6, while Pate finished in 20:59.6.

Other Gillett runners in the boys race included Nash Stage (fifth, 19:10.2) and Jeremiah Lennon (22nd, 21:34.4).

Other runners in the girls race for the Tigers included Halle Wendorff (seventh, 22:32.6), Sophie Limberg (ninth, 22:50.2), Sharlese Stage (19th, 26:04.9) and Maggie Kaczmarek (21st, 26:58.2).

Lena/STAA won the girls championship by one point over Gillett despite placing three runners in the top five.

The Titans ended up with 31 points, followed by Gillett (32) and Coleman (58).

Aspynn Anderson, Alisa Finger and Adrena Rabas led the Titans by placing third, fourth and fifth with times of 21:37.7, 21:40.8 and 22:24, respectively.

Other runners for Lena/STAA were Alexis Maloney (11th, 23:33.8) and Carla Caballero Morante (13th, 24:31.4).

Lena/STAA’s runners in the boys race included Erik Kosch (ninth, 19:57.3), Dash Comins (20th, 21:18.8) and Cooper Malloy (25th, 23:47.3).

Suring also competed at the meet.

Suring’s runners in the boys race included Riley Thompson (11th, 20:27), Charles Richard (15th, 20:47.6), Blake DeGrave (16th, 20:52.8), Garrett School (24th, 22:01.9) and Skylar Bristol (31st, 26:47.6).

The Eagles also had a pair of top-10 finishes in the girls race, as Ginger Gerndt and Allyson Seibert placed eighth and 10th with times of 22:38.1 and 23:01.8, respectively.

Suring finished second behind Oneida Nation in the team standings. Oneida Nation had 17 points, while Suring had 44.

Bay

It was a case of deja vu all over again for Shawano on Oct. 18 at the Bay Conference Meet, as the boys and girls both placed third behind a pair of top-10 finishes.

Fox Valley Lutheran scored 49 points in each race to claim both championships.

The Foxes won the boys championship, followed by Winneconne (69), Shawano (74), New London (87), Seymour (90), Xavier (114), Menasha (206), Green Bay West (255) and Green Bay East (263).

Shawano’s runners included Josiah Kuehl (seventh, 17:38.2), Aloysius Frechette (ninth, 18:18.4), Quinten Harkey (17th, 18:48.5), Teagan Harkey (18th, 18:51.3), Beckett Hendricks (23rd, 19:16.5), James Lange (31st, 19:42.3),; Brayden Fish (36th, 20:06.9) and Angel Vanega Lange (48th, 21:49.2).

Team scores for the girls race were Fox Valley Lutheran (49), Winneconne (54), Shawano (60), Xavier (95), Menasha (119), New London (143), Seymour (97) and Green Bay East (220).

Shawano’s runners included Bailey Hendricks (third, 20:56), Maci Beyer (10th, 21:59.6), Mikelah Powers (14th, 22:19.5), Jai Bisterfeldt (24th, 23:23.3), Anabelle Schroeder (32nd, 23:42.8) and Emma Nelson (41st, 24:55).

North Eastern

Luxemburg-Casco won both team titles at the North Eastern Conference Meet while the Oconto Falls girls and boys placed second and third, respectively, Oct. 17.

The Spartans placed all seven of their runners in the top 10 in the boys race and finished with 22 points.

Little Chute placed second with 65 points, followed by Oconto Falls (98), Marinette (127), Denmark (137), Waupaca (140), Wrightstown (160) and Clintonville (204).

Isaiah Holtz placed 10th for Oconto Falls in 18:32.1. The Panthers’ other runners included Mason Lotto (16th, 19:06.9), Landon Timm (19th, 19:26.9), Ethan Zielinski (20th, 19:33.3), Braxton Rajkovich (38th, 20:57.5), Sage Mendolla (40th, 21:02.6) and Lucas Vanhulle (45th, 22:16.2).

Luxemburg-Casco edged the Panthers by two points to win the girls championship.

The Spartans finished with 47 points, followed by Oconto Falls (49), Freedom (78), Little Chute (106), Clintonville (129), Waupaca (147), Marinette (154) and Denmark (159).

A pair of freshmen finished in the top 10 for the Panthers, as Lily Meissner finished sixth in 21:13.7 and Sydney Braund placed ninth in 21:52.1.

Other places and times for the Panthers included Alex Braund (13th, 22:09.1), Ava Holtz (18th, 22:38.9), Mackenzie Lotto (19th, 22:43.9) and Lily Caelwaerts (52nd, 28:59.8).

FRCC

Maggie Gerth’s second-place finish helped Pulaski place fourth in the girls standings Oct. 16.

Green Bay Preble won the girls team championship with 58 points, followed by Bay Port (70), De Pere (79), Pulaski (90), Notre Dame (101), Manitowoc (102), Ashwaubenon (190), West De Pere (254), Sheboygan North (278) and Green Bay Southwest (310).

Gerth led the Red Raiders with a time of 19:01.8, 10 seconds behind Preble’s Camille Haller, while teammates Emerson Fabry and Addie Bruckert also finished in the top 10. Fabry placed sixth in 19:26.4, and Bruckert was 10th in 20:11.5.

Other places and times for the Red Raiders included Cameran Reiss (26th, 21:06), Ellie Murphy (46th, 22:06.7) and Estella Vieaux (57th, 24:21.5).

The Pulaski boys had a pair of top-10 finishes to place third.

Parker Marshall placed sixth in 16:39.5, while Arden Gillen turned in a time of 16:45 to place ninth.

Other runners for the Red Raiders included Grayden Gossen (18th, 17:07.4), Mitchell Pilon (28th, 17:29.1), Dayne Groth (30th, 17:37.1), Ben Augustine (44th, 18:35.4), Thomas Murphy (58th, 19:09) and Carter Ryskoski (59th, 19:10).

De Pere won the boys team title with 46 points, followed by Green Bay Preble (55), Pulaski (91), Notre Dame (111), Sheboygan North (145), Ashwaubenon (146), Bay Port (193), Manitowoc (198), West De Pere (220) and Green Bay Southwest (313).

Sectional schedule

Sectional meets in three divisions are scheduled for Oct. 24-25.

The top teams from each sectional, as well as the top five individuals not on a qualifying team, will advance to the WiAA State Cross Country Championships, set for Nov. 1 at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Division 1

Pulaski will join Appleton East, Appleton North, Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere, Green Bay East, Green Bay Preble, Green Bay Southwest, Kaukauna, Kimberly and West De Pere at the De Pere Sectional at UW-Green Bay on Oct. 25.

The boys race is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., with the girls race to follow at 12:30 p.m.

Division 2

Shawano, Oconto Falls, Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Menominee Nation will head to the Merrill Area Recreational Complex in Merrill on Oct. 24 for a sectional that will also include teams from Antigo, Clintonville, Lakeland, Marinette, Medford, Merrill, Mosinee, Northland Pines, Peshtigo (girls only), Rhinelander and Tomahawk.

The boys will run at 4:15 p.m., followed by the girls at 5 p.m.

Division 3

Bonduel, Gillett, Gresham/Bowler, Lena/STAA, Marion/Tigerton, Suring and Wolf River Lutheran will travel to Rosholt High School in Rosholt on Oct. 25 for a sectional that will also include teams from Coleman, Crandon, Crivitz, Edgar, Florence/Niagara, Marathon, Northland Lutheran, Oconto, Pacelli, Pembine/Goodman, Peshtigo (boys only), Rosholt, Stratford, Three Lakes/Phelps, Wabeno/Laona and Wausaukee.

The boys race is slated for 10:30 a.m., followed by the girls race at 11:15 a.m.
