An emergency management grant of about $40,000 for Shawano County finally appears to be on its way.
Shawano County Sheriff Lt. Chris Madle, also the county’s emergency management director, told the public safety committee Sept. 2 the application for the Emergency Management Performance Grant was received the previous week.
“This year’s grant for 2025, they just sent out the application last week finally,” he said. “I would normally get this application in October 2025 for this year’s, but the 2026 application just came through from the state last week.”
He said he will complete the application and file it by the end of September deadline.
“We’ve got a little bit of work to do to make sure everything still gets done, because, of course, the state still wants you to have all the work done for the grant by the end of the year even though they only gave you three months to do it,” Madle said.
He said he expects about a 5% increase in the grant.
However, due to the uncertainty surrounding the grant, it is not included in the county’s proposed budget for next year.
