Witt-Birn boys cross-country team qualifies for sectionals

Individual runners from Bonduel, Oconto Falls and Clintonville also qualify

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School boys cross-country team posted a second-place finish at the Division 2 Oconto Falls Subsectional on Tuesday at The Patriot Golf Club in Abrams to qualify for sectionals.

Witt-Birn's score of 51 was behind just Tomahawk (39).

Oconto Falls' Joe Adams, Clintonville's Jesse Wilson and Bonduel's Jack Johnson and Cooper Uelmen qualified for sectionals as individuals on the boys side. Bonduel's Ashlyn Kurey, Kara Troxel, Kalleigh Schroeder and Breanna Schnell and Oconto Falls' Hannah Ludemann earned the individual sectional spots on the girls side.

Tommy Bruski led the Witt-Birn boys team with a fifth-place finish in 17 minutes, 40.7 seconds. Simon Schairer (17:48.5) and Wyatt Dickman (17:53.2) weren't far behind, placing seventh and eighth, respectively.

Nash Wojnowiak (18:33.5) and Ian Resch (18:34) rounded out the team score, taking 15th and 16th, respectively. Craig Wendel (18:58.9) and Ian Salveson (19:41.1) also ran for the Charger boys.

Adams completed the course in 17:11.7 to finish third overall. Wilson came in fourth in 17:23.7, while Johnson (18:02.7) and Uelmen (18:10.2) took 10th and 11th.

Kurey posted a time of 20:46.8 to take third, with Troxel coming in fourth in 20:57.9. Schroeder (22:05.4) was 12th and Schnell (22:15.5) 15th.

Ludemann was ninth in 21:30.5.

The Bonduel girls just missed out on qualifying for sectionals as a team after taking third with a score of 50. Tomahawk (33) was first and Amherst (48) second.

Kendra Troxel (22:16.2), Joselyn Bohm (23:27.3) and Jessica Ewing (25:20) filled out the team.

The Bonduel boys took third as a team. Alex Jasch (19:35.5), Ben O'Brien (20:03.9), Karter Schroeder (20:09.1) and Joseph Renner (24:25.1) rounded out the team.

The Oconto Falls girls took fourth as a team, while the boys were fifth.

Alexis Euclide (23:10.8), Maddy Przybylski (23:47.6), Sydney Bell (24:23.9), Jaden Reed (25:46.2), Helen Marquardt (25:51.9) and Aspen Canavera (28:14.6) were the other Oconto Falls girls runners.

Braden Uelman (19:07.8), Grant Yuma (19:40), Damien Reed (22:16.1) and Landon Budz (22:21.8) filled out the Panther boys team.

The Clintonville boys took sixth, while the girls didn't qualify for a team score.

Cody Carrico (20:33.1), Brody Prill (21:22.7), Joshua Wilson (21:24), Mason Carrico (21:34.7), Caedyn Higgins (21:59.7) and Garrett Kroening (22:13.1) filled out the boys team, while Jasmine Wilson (23:53.3), Allison Smejkal (25:59.8) and Rebecca Pyatskowit (27:59.5) represented the girls team.

The Witt-Birn girls also didn't qualify for a team score. Ruby Nowinsky (23:52.9), Lauren Dombeck (25:56.7) and Amelia Bessert (29:24.8) ran for the Chargers.

The sectional-qualifying teams and individuals are scheduled to compete in the Tomahawk Sectional on Saturday.
