Wisconsin egg production dips from last year
Wisconsin egg production during August was 205 million eggs, down 5% from the previous August, according to the latest chickens and eggs report from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The average number of all layers on hand during August was 7.64 million, down 5% from last year. Eggs per 100 layers
for August was 2,686, up slightly from a year ago. United States egg production totaled 9.08 billion during August, down 3% from last year.
Production included 7.77 billion table eggs, and 1.30 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.21 billion were broiler-type and 95.8 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during August totaled 370 million, down 3% from last year. August egg production per 100 layers was 2,451 eggs, up slightly from August 2023.
Total layers in the United States on Sept. 1 totaled 372 million, down 3% from last year. The 372 million layers consisted of 307 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 61.6 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs and 3.66 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs.
Rate of lay per day on Sept. 1 averaged 79.3 eggs per 100 layers, up 1% from Sept. 1, 2023.
Egg-type chicks hatched during August totaled 57.4 million, up 9% from August 2023. Eggs in incubators totaled 52.0 million on Sept. 1, up 4% from a year ago.
Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 263,000 during August, up 3% from August 2023.
Broiler-type chicks hatched during August totaled 875 million, up 3% from August 2023. Eggs in incubators totaled 742 million on Sept. 1, up 4% from a year ago.
