WASP swimmers win home meet

Wittenberg Area Swim Program coaches Brenna Opper, Kaylee Gilmeister, Laura Gilmeister and Lauren Baar led their swimmers to a team victory when they hosted the Summer Social Swim Meet on June 7 at the Darwin E. Smith Aquatic Center.

Kaydence Crick, Aislyn Sauter, Peyton Crick and Aubrey Wierzba won the mixed 11-12 200-yard medley relay in 2:22.35. They were followed by Michael Reynolds, Ava Lindbro, Maddy Kessel and Ryan Rehn of the Pulaski Area Swim Club in 2:30.84.

WASP’s Brinley Wierzba, Lucy Wierzba, Ayla Frisch and Halley Innes won the mixed 10 and under 200-yard freestyle relay in 3:02.11.

The Pulaski club’s Sophie Maroszek, JoJo Van Roy, Ryan Reynolds and Nathan Reynolds won the mixed 12 and under 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:19.81. Placing second was the WASP quartet of Natalie Bessette, Arya Frisch, Josalin Stewart and Aislyn Sauter in 2:29.54.

Winning the mixed 13 and over 200-yard freestyle relay were Wittenberg’s Rylee Crick, Elizabeth Behnke, Olivia Bessette and Megan Gilmester in 2:03.62.

Olivia Bessette, Rylee Crick and Aubrey Wierzba won all of the individual meets in which they raced.

Olivia Bessette won the female 15 and over 50 freestyle, the female 15 and over 50 backstroke, the female 15 and over 100 freestyle and the female 15 and over 50 breaststroke.

Rylee Crick, competing in the female 13-14 group, won the 50 freestyle, 100 fly and 100 freestyle.

Aubrey Wierzba, in the female 11-12 division, won the 200 individual medley, 50 fly, 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke.

Lucy Wierzba, female 8 and under, won three events – the 25 backstroke, 50 freestyle and 25 breaststroke. She was also second in the 25 fly.

Kaydence Crick, female 11-12, won the 100 individual medley and the 200 freestyle, while placing second in the 50 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.

Gilmester, female 15 and over, won the 200 individual medley. She was second in the 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke.

Competing in the female 11-12 group, Aislyn Sauter captured first place in the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle, while finishing second in the 50 fly and 100 freestyle.

Innes, competing in the female 9-10 division, won the 50 fly. She placed second in the 100 individual medley and the 50 breaststroke, while placing third in the 50 backstroke.

Behnke, in the female 13-14 group, won the 500 freestyle, placed second in the 50 breaststroke, and placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and 50 fly.

Brinley Wierzba, female 9-10, won the 50 breaststroke. She was second in the 50 freestyle and 50 fly, as well as fifth in the 50 backstroke.

Peyton Crick, female 11-12, finished second in the 100 individual medley, third in the 50 freestyle, and fourth in the 50 fly and 50 breaststroke.

In the female 8 and under division, Sophie Meisenhelder earned second place in the 25 breaststroke, fourth in the 25 freestyle and seventh in the 25 backstroke.

August Laatsch, male 8 and under, placed third in the 25 freestyle, 25 backstroke and 50 freestyle.

Arya Frisch, female 11-12, placed third in the 100 individual medley, sixth in the 50 freestyle, and seventh in the 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke.

Ayla Frisch placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and the 50 backstroke in the female 9-10 group. Myles Sauter, male 8 and under, was also fourth in the 25 backstroke and 50 freestyle.

Placing fifth in the 50 breaststroke in the female 11-12 group was Stewart. She was also fifth in the 50 fly and sixth in the 50 backstroke.

Natalie Bessette, in the female 11-12 category, was eighth in the 100 free, and ninth in the 50 free and 50 breaststroke.
