Sylvia E. Jeske

Sylvia E. Jeske, 93, of the town of Matteson, Waupaca County, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 24, 2020, at Maple Lane Health Services in the town of Belle Plaine, Shawano County, following a brief illness.

Sylvia Elaine Zahn was born on June 27, 1926, in Shawano as the daughter of the late Albert and Meta (Viergutz) Zahn. She grew up in Hermansfort, where she was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Sylvia married her sweetheart, Mark Jeske, on June 19, 1948 at St. John’s. The couple operated a dairy farm in the town of Matteson and became members of Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass.

Sylvia volunteered a lot at church and enjoyed making new friends while volunteering her time at thrift stores in both Shawano and Green Bay for over 28 years. Aside from her faith and family, one of her favorite ways to pass the time was doing embroidery, especially making dish towels. Sylvia loved sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Lois (Dan) Stueck; grandchildren, Joe (Stacie) Stueck, Carrie (Patrick) Buechler, Tony (Heather Ritchie) Jeske and Katie (Jake) Bohm; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Stueck, Gabe, Skye, Hudson, and Brooks Bohm, Erika and Max Oreskovich, and Emily (fiance Andy) Buechler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mark, in 1996; her son, James “Jim” Jeske; a brother, Leo (Leona) Zahn; and a sister, Della (Wallace) Pautz.

Sylvia’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Maple Lane and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for the excellent care she received.

Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, Sylvia will be laid to rest in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Embarrass privately, and a public memorial service will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass at a later date.

The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home and Crematory of Clintonville is entrusted with her arrangements.
