State corn production expected to decline

Wisconsin corn production is forecast at 535 million bushels, down 3% from the previous year, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Crop Production report.

Based on conditions as of Sept. 1, yields are expected to average 182 bushels per acre, down one bushel from the Aug. 1 forecast but up six bushels from last year.

Corn planted acreage is estimated at 3.75 million acres. An estimated 2.94 million of the acres planted will be harvested for grain, unchanged from the previous forecast.

Soybean production is forecast at 114 million bushels, up 9% from 2023. The yield is forecast at 54 bushels per acre, one bushel higher than the August forecast and three bushels higher than 2023. Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 2.15 million acres. An estimated 2.12 million of the acres planted will be harvested, unchanged from the previous forecast.

Nationally, corn production for grain is forecast at 15.2 billion bushels, up less than 1% from the previous forecast but down 1% from 2023. Based on conditions as of Sept. 1, yields are expected to average 183.6 bushels per harvested acre, up 0.5 bushel from the previous forecast and up 6.3 bushels from last year.

Area harvested for grain is forecast at 82.7 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 4% from the previous year.

Soybean production for beans is forecast at a record high 4.59 billion bushels, down slightly from the previous forecast but up 10% from 2023. Yields are expected to average a record high 53.2 bushels per acre, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 2.6 bushels from 2023. Area harvested for beans in the United States is forecast at 86.3 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 5% from 2023.
