State’s egg production dips in July

Wisconsin egg production during July was 201 million eggs, down 8% from the previous July, according to the latest Chickens and Eggs report from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The average number of all layers on hand during July was 7.59 million, down 8% from last year. Eggs per 100 layers for July was 2,646, down slightly from a year ago.

United States egg production totaled 9.06 billion during July, down 2% from last year. Production included 7.76 billion table eggs, and 1.3 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.2 billion were broiler-type and 99 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during July totaled 370 million, down 3% from last year. July egg production per 100 layers was 2,451 eggs, up slightly from July 2023.

Total layers in the United States on Aug. 1 totaled 369 million, down 3% from last year. The 369 million layers consisted of 304 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 61.5 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.76 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs.

Rate of lay per day on Aug. 1 averaged 79 eggs per 100 layers, up slightly from Aug. 1, 2023.

Egg-type chicks hatched during July totaled 57.3 million, up 12% from July 2023. Eggs in incubators totaled 53.9 million on Aug. 1, up 10% from a year ago.

Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 200,000 during July, up 2% from July 2023.

Broiler-type chicks hatched during July totaled 863 million, up 2% from July 2023. Eggs in incubators totaled 746 million on Aug. 1, up 3% from a year ago.
