SHAWANO SPEEDWAY: More than $14,000 raised at Racing for a Reason

Shawano Speedway’s Racing for a Reason fundraiser June 29 collected $14,217. The funds will be presented to HSHS St. Vincent’s Child Life Services on July 20.

The races that night were an extra blessing as it was the first the cars were on the track after being rained out three weeks in a row.

Brett Swedberg and Chris Engels were the front row starters for the late model feature. Swedberg got the hole shot from Engels as they completed lap 1. Behind the leaders, action was picking up fast as Troy Springborn (starting sixth) and Andy Karl (starting 10th) began to pass cars. Springborn caught Swedberg coming into corner 3 on lap 7 and made the clean pass. Karl got up to Swedberg at times but wasn’t able to pass him. When the final lap was complete, Springborn earned his third victory of the year.

In the IMCA stock cars feature, the “Horicon Hurricane” Jeremy Christians and Shawn “Lunchbox” Wagner set the pace for the 25-lap event.

By lap 3, Dan Michonski used his fourth-place starting spot to get to the outside and slip past the leaders. The action from second place on back was heating up as several drivers were moving up in positions fast. Nate Michonski moved up five spots but the hard charger was Dylan Stedjee passing nine cars in this event. On lap 14, Travis VanStratten had found himself on the heels of Dan Michonski for the lead. VanStratten used the preferred bottom grove to slip past Michonski and went on to claim another feature win.

IMCA modifieds saw Jerry Muenster win his heat race earlier in the night, and as the luck of the draw goes, he earned himself and fellow heat winner of the night Jordan Bartz the front row starting spots for the A-Main event.

Bartz got the advantage going into turn 1. Konnor Wilinski moved up from his sixth-place starting spot to give chase to Bartz, with Wyatt Block following closely. After several cautions for spins and debris, track officials went to a single-file restart. With time expiring soon, the race was set to go green, white, checkered. By this time, Block had gotten around Konnor Wilinski for second place. As the double checkers flew, Bartz picked up the feature win.

IMCA northern sport mods A-Main event went green to checker.

Zach Raab and Logan Fleischman sat on the front row. Raab pretty much shot out a cannon at the drop of the green flag. Raab was followed by Fleischman, Cole Magnum, Max Oreskovich and Kevin Bethke. Around the halfway point, Magnin found himself in second place and at times was gaining on the leader Raab. Oreskovich and Fleischman were swapping positions through the next several laps. When flag man swirled the double checkers, it was Raab who crossed the line first.

Mighty 4 division saw Calvin Stueck and Clint Malueg on the front row. Stueck was in charge early on in this 12-lap feature. Tanner Pari and Braden Allen had a challenge for Stueck for several laps. The man on a move was Brad Wedde, moving up eight spots and finally reaching the top spot. The race wasn’t done there, as Justin Haufe had a little something for Wedde but just couldn’t make it stick until the end and ended up taking second.
