Shawano girls basketball team opens season with a win

High school girls basketball teams began their competitions last week, with many local teams opening their seasons with wins.

Shawano’s girls basketball team opened its 2023-24 campaign with a 55-28 win over Medford on Nov. 14. Leah Nordin led the Hawks with 28 points.

Lena

Eva Brooks scored 21 points to help lead Lena to an 85-23 win over Goodman/Pembine at Pembine on Nov. 14. Madilyn Thomson added 18 points, and Kali Fischer scored 15 to help the Wildcats win. Whitney Potter had a pair of 3-point baskets as she scored eight on the night.

Lena led 58-10 at the half and outscored the Patriots 27-13 in the second half.

Bowler

Bowler opened the girls basketball seasons with a 48-34 victory against Elcho at home Nov. 14.

Gresham

The Gresham Wildcats had little trouble in disposing of Stockbridge in the opening game of the 2023-24 girls basketball season. Gresham won 66-9 on Nov. 14.

The hosts outscored their guests 44-5 in the first half and 22-4 in the second half.

Bonduel

Ella Hischke scored 19 points and Hailee Thompson added 13 as the Bonduel girls basketball team downed Algoma 54-22 on Nov. 14.

The Bears outscored their hosts 39-16 in the first half and 15-6 in the second half.

Menominee Indian

Tied 18-18 going into halftime, Menominee Indian was outscored 31-24 in the second half as they lost 49-42 to Oconto.

Oconto was led by Natalie Schlueter with 16 points and Addisyn Viestenz with 13.

The host Eagles were paced by Ayanna Smith with 14 points. Smith connected on a trio of 3-pointers, while Anisa Peters and Lena Wausau each had two.

Pulaski

Pulaski’s girls basketball team lost 63-42 to West De Pere on Nov. 14.
