Voters in Shawano County cast ballots Tuesday in the state Supreme Court primary with a vote tally that mirrored the results of the rest of the state.

Incumbent Justice Daniel Kelly and Dane County Circuit Judge Jill Karofsky emerged as the top vote-getters and will compete in the April 7 general election for a 10-year term on the bench.

Marquette University Law professor Ed Fallone finished a distant third in Tuesday’s three-way contest.

With 97% of precincts reporting Wednesday morning, Kelly won 5o% of the statewide vote with a tally of 343,163; Karofsky garnered 256,379 votes or about 37%; and Fallone finished with 87,485 votes or 12.7%

In Shawano County, Kelly won 2,465 votes; Karofsky 835 votes; and Fallone garnered 268.

The results still need to be certified by the Board of Canvass, which meets Thursday.

A total of 3,568 ballots were cast in Shawano County in Tuesday’s primary. That’s about 16% of the county’s 22,204 registered voters.

County officials had expected a low turnout, given there was only one statewide race on the ballot.
