Shawano boys win cross-country invitational

The Shawano Community High School boys cross-country team posted a score of 60 to place first at the Chargers Invitational on Sept. 7 in Wittenberg.

The Shawano girls team came in second with a score of 56, while the Bonduel girls were third with a mark of 92. Witt-Birn (233) placed 10th.

Back on the boys side, Witt-Birn (187) took seventh, while Bonduel (196) was eighth. Menominee Indian (226) placed 11th.

Individual athletes from Gresham/Bowler and Marion also competed at the invitational.

The Shawano boys had three individuals finish in the top 10, with Ethan Onesti leading the way by taking fourth in 17 minutes, 26 seconds. Aidan Preston took eighth in 18:07.1, while Andon Chelberg claimed 10th with a time of 18:21.3.

Will Chelberg (18:40.6) and Connor Chelberg (19:20.2) were the fourth and fifth Hawks to cross the finish line, taking 14th and 24th, respectively.

The Shawano girls had three runners place inside the top five. Grace Beyer won the girls race with a time of 20:37.8. Grace Chelberg (21:00.8) came in third, while Lily Guenther (21:03.3) was fourth.

Adalyn Barkley (23:33.8) was the fourth Shawano girl to finish, placing 15th. Onna Hermann (25:53.4) placed 39th.

Ashlyn Kurey (22:10) and Kendra Troxel (22:49) led the Bonduel girls team with ninth and 10th-place finishes, respectively.

Teagan Engel (23:49.1), Joselyn Bohm (24:36) and Taylor Rank (25:28.9) rounded out the team's top-five finishers, placing 18th, 28th and 35th, respectively.

Cooper Uelmen placed 17th in 18:55.3, while Ben O'Brein was 21st in 19:08.7 to lead the Bonduel boys team.

Ayden Dunst (20:08.5), Race Anvelink (21:28) and Ben Reisner (25:05.3) filled out the Bears' top-five finishers, taking 35th, 55th and 92nd, respectively.

The Witt-Birn boys team was led by Simon Schairer, who took 11th with a time of 18:36.7. Craig Wendel (19:42.7) finished 27th, while Mason Meverden (19:56.2) was 30th.

Owen Schultz (22:27.1) placed 68th and Hayden Miller (22:28.5) 70th to cap the team's top five.

Ruby Nowinsky posted a time of 24:32.8 to place 27th and pace the Witt-Birn girls. Annika Resch (28:32.2), Ava Hegewald (29:04.9), Ava Wepner (30:51.6) and Amelia Bessert (33:55.4) rounded out the team, placing 53rd, 60th, 72nd and 79th, respectively.

Lloyd Reevis placed 28th in 19:47.8, while Isaiah Moss was 34th with a mark of 20:08 and Barron Waupoose 44th in 20:46.7 to lead the five-runner Menominee Indian boys team. Francis Delabrau (21:30.8) claimed 57th, while Darus Davis (24:54.8) took 91st.

Emma Komanekin was the lone Menominee Indian girls runner, placing 26th in 24:30.9.

Jaden Stuhr led a trio of Marion boys runners with a 43rd-place finish in 20:46.6. Jackson Krohn (24:17.2) took 87th, while Jesse Trebus (24:40.2) took 88th.

Bridget Much (30:38.1), Nora Weisman (33:36.7) and Kelsey Zillmer (34:11.9) represented the Marion girls, placing 71st, 77th and 80th, respectively.

Bryson Nelson was the lone Gresham/Bowler runner in action. He placed 64th in 21:57.1.
