The Oconto Falls High School boys golf team earned a second-place finish during a weather-shortened Stu Anderson Golf Invitational on May 12 at River Island Golf Course in Oconto Falls.

Oconto Falls posted a team score of 169 through nine holes, behind only Marinette’s 159 and just ahead of Notre Dame’s 170. Oconto Falls also had another team of five golfers competing, taking ninth with a mark of 231.

“Our team was happy taking second place today,” said Rease Hodkiewicz, who led the Panthers’ top team with a round of 40. “We thought we could of scored a little better, but we are confident going into some big tournaments coming up.”

Pulaski also competed at the invitational, taking seventh with a mark of 198.

Hodkiewicz made five pars during his round, including four in a row from holes 5-8. His mark of 40 tied for third as an individual.

“I was super confident today with my iron game and my chipping,” said Hodkiewicz. “I could have made some more putts; I left a few strokes out there.”

Kadyn Riel and Thomas Carmody each carded rounds of 42 for the Panthers’ top team, while Caden Leonhardt and Trevor Metzler each tallied 45s.

“I shot 42 on the first nine and was feeling really good, and I was thinking I was in for a good day,” said Carmody, noting the lightning that stopped the invitational. “A couple over hooked drives but other than that, I was very pleased.”

Oconto Falls’ second team was led by Keaton Herms, who shot a round of 46.

Nick Trepanier carded a 58, while Nick Allen was at a 61. Daniel Donart’s 66 and Jackson McDonald’s 70 filled out the team.

“As a team, it feels like we are all finding our groove after a lot of bad weather events,” said Carmody. “We have a solid team and are hoping to continue getting better and finishing the season strong.”

Derek Shaw led Pulaski’s team with a round of 46.

“Today I hit my driver very well, putting it in the fairway almost every time,” said Shaw. “I feel like I could have played my irons a bit better.”

Isaac Nelson wasn’t too far behind Shaw with a round of 49.

Robert Kinner, Jaqx Kanusha and and Ryan Freward tallied rounds of 50, 53 and 55, respectively.

“I think we will take our scores and be happy with them,” said Shaw. “It would have been nice to play the holes again, but the weather didn’t like the sound of that.”
