Melvin ‘Shorty’ Benjamin Weisnicht

Melvin B. “Shorty” Weisnicht, 88, of Shawano. Melvin’s earthly journey ended Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, at Atrium Post Acute Care of Shawano at Maple Lane. He was born May 20, 1931, to the late Benjamin and Margaret (Drier) Weisnicht.

Melvin was united in marriage to Verna Schultz on Sept. 15, 1951, in Shawano, and they were married for 68 years. Melvin worked on a farm for Klement, Jake Lighthart, Consolidated Badger Cooperative and Shawano Auto Sales. Also, he and the love of his life owned and operated their own farm in the town of Belle Plaine.

In his younger years, Melvin enjoyed hunting and fishing, and during his later years, he enjoyed rebuilding tractors and attending auctions. He and Verna enjoyed going to flea markets and bowling together.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Verna; his children, Michael (Dee) Weisnicht, of Shawano, Patricia (Darrell) Walker, of Pound, Joanne (Kelvin) Olson, of Shawano, and Mark (Patti) Weisnicht, of Pulaski; his grandchildren, Eric (Liz), Chad (Stacy) and Kari (Mike); his great-grandchildren, Chase, Madison, Mackenzie and Elliott; his brother, Willis (Donna) Weisnicht; and his brother-in-law, William Ruechel. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Margaret; his brothers, James (Edwina) Weisnicht and Vernon (Elva) Weisnicht; his half-brothers, Wilfred (Helen) Keuschel and Fritz (Anna Clare) Keuschel; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, James (Audrey) Coleman and Gertrude Ruechel.

A funeral service for Melvin will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano, with the Rev. Kurt Kluge officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
