LETTER: Gallagher, Johnson spread discord locally

To the editor:

In the recent edition of the Shawano Leader, there was an article describing the dedication of the new Shawano County Republican party headquarters. The highlighted guests were Rep. Mike Gallagher and Sen. Ron Johnson. Of course, the attendance of these individuals was highly appropriate.

However, the content of their messages was not. In effect, they were speaking to attendees that continue to bow to the knee of their secular “jesus” — Donald J. Trump. This despite the fact that he continues to propagate the “big lie” about the 2020 election and continues to foment discord that could result in additional events as the one that occurred on Jan. 6.

Specifically, Gallagher intimated “dark money” coming into Wisconsin that influenced the election in favor of Democrats. Really? This coming from a member of a party whose very existence is almost totally dependent on hard-to-trail money from individuals such as the Koch brothers and other white elites. Of course, his MO is not to provide specifics but merely to add to prevailing conspiracy theories.

Then, of course, there is the honorable Ron Johnson. He is the one who very proudly asserted that he did not feel threatened on Jan. 6, because the crowd was made up of white patriots; however, he would have been terrified if the crowd had been made up of Black Lives Matter protesters. The implication was that this was a “peaceful” gathering.

The attack on Anthony Fauci was particularly egregious. When science does not matter, it flies in the face of God creating human beings to think.

I will repeat my firm belief that personal freedom does not extend to another’s right to place my health in jeopardy. Don’t believe the myths propagated by our Republican leadership — nationally, statewide or locally. If you want to be faith-based, start thinking about your neighbors’ well-being instead of just your own.
