Lena senior Logan Shallow was named to the Marinette & Oconto Conference first team after a monster spring season on the baseball diamond.

Shallow made the all-conference list as an infielder, but also was one of the conference’s top pitchers.

Lena senior Lane Whiting was another top pitcher in the M&O, and he made the second team at that position. Sophomore infielder Logan Graef and freshman outfielder Tyler Shallow also made the second team, with junior Josh Kristof being tabbed an honorable mention.

Gillett/Suring saw junior Austin Vande Corput and freshman Mikey Pecanas make the honorable mention list this spring.

Logan Shallow turned in a .492 batting average and got on base at a .588 clip in 20 games this spring. The senior drove in 22 runs and scored 30 times. Shallow doubled nine times and tripled twice among his 32 total hits. He homered in the team’s season-ending loss to Columbus Catholic in a sectional semifinal game.

The senior earned six wins on the mound, covering 47 innings across 15 games and eight starts. He struck out 70 batters and had a sharp 2.83 earned run average.

“It means a lot to be named first team all-conference as a senior,” Shallow said. “It is really nice to know that all the hard work that I’ve put in is paying off. My team definitely helped me to get it, without them I would not have gotten it. But I’ll continue to work hard to keep getting better in the future.”

Whiting pitched in 12 games and started eight times, covering 42⅔ innings and sporting a 3.45 ERA. He struck out 84 batters and earned four wins.

At the plate, Whiting posted a .344 average and .467 on-base percentage. The senior drove in 23 runs and had 12 extra-base hits among his 21 total hits.

Graef doubled three times among his 16 total hits and drove in 12 runs for the Wildcats. He scored 23 runs and got on base at a .361 clip.

Graef also did some pitching, covering 22⅓ innings across 14 games. He struck out 29 batters and had a 4.08 ERA.

Tyler Shallow recorded a .385 average and .524 on-base percentage as a freshman this spring. He clubbed four doubles among his 25 total hits, drove in 15 runs and scored 20 times. He also pitched 10 innings, striking out eight over that span.

Kristof caught and did a little pitching for Lena. At the plate, he turned in a .391 average and .451 on-base percentage. He homered once and doubled seven times among his 25 total hits, drove in 20 runs and scored nine times. He pitched 1⅔ innings but earned one win on the mound.

Pecanas had a strong year at the plate for the Gillett/Suring co-op, with a .386 overall batting average and .448 clip in M&O play. Eleven of the catcher’s 17 RBIs and nine of his 14 runs scored came in conference play.

“I think this award will push me to try and keep pushing myself to be better each year,” said Pecanas. “Hopefully this next season I’ll be able to get better than honorable mention and maybe even a second team, then moving onto my junior and senior years, I planned on having a first team each year.”

Vande Corput had a .324 batting average in conference play. Seven of his nine RBIs and 10 of his 15 runs scored were also in conference play. The junior successfully swiped 15 of the 16 bases he attempted to steal.

“This honor means a lot to me because I worked very hard and I’m glad the hard work paid off. I appreciate the recognition,” said Vande Corput. “This will motivate me to continue to improve and be the best player I can be in my senior season.”
