A case involving a Shawano man accused of first-degree intentional homicide moved further as Michael Ingold entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment on Jan. 18.

Ingold, 58, faces one count of first-degree intentional homicide, after an autopsy report showed that a victim died from manual strangulation. He was charged on Aug. 1. If convicted, Ingold faces life in prison.

The criminal complaint states that Ingold was in his home with the victim on June 25. Ingold told Shawano County Sheriff Department deputies that he woke up around 2:30 a.m. that night and heard the victim in the kitchen getting a beer. From there Ingold allegedly awoke again at 4:01 a.m. and found the victim deceased in the bedroom. Ingold allegedly acknowledged that he and the victim were the only two in the house, but denied touching the victim.

With Ingold appearing in-person and his attorney, Christopher Froelich appearing over Zoom at the Jan. 18 arraignment, Froelich informed Shawano-Menominee Circuit Court Judge William Kussel Jr. that he provided a copy of information regarding the case and reviewed it multiple times with Ingold.

“We reviewed the information several times — recently we met at the Shawano County Jail on Jan. 13,” said Froelich. “My client understands the charge, the maximum penalty, he waives the reading of the information, he enters a not guilty plea.”

Kussel accepted the not guilty plea and scheduled a final pre-trial for April 18 at 3:30 p.m.
