High-speed chase ends in Shawano County

BOWLER — Two people were arrested after a high-speed chase Tuesday that began in Marathon County ended with the car catching fire on County Road D in Bowler, according to authorities.

The vehicle was pulled over in the town of Norrie just over the Marathon County line and a Shawano County sheriff’s deputy was called to assist.

The vehicle fled, leading Marathon and Shawano County deputies on a high-speed pursuit into Shawano County where, according to Chief Deputy George Lenzner, “the car basically started on fire on its own account.”

The vehicle pulled into a driveway and the passenger fled on foot.

The driver, Ashley Deangelis, 34, of Schofield, surrendered herself and has been charged in Marathon County with fleeing, resisting or obstructing an officer and operating after revocation.

The passenger, a 43-year-old Wausau man, was also later taken into custody by Marathon County deputies.
