Gillett man killed when pickup overturns

A Gillett man died in a one-vehicle accident during the early morning hours of Nov. 25.

Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban said dispatchers received the call about 3:15 a.m. regarding the accident on state Highway 22 near Old U Road in the Town of Gillett.

Responding deputies found a pickup truck in the south ditch with extensive damage. The preliminary investigation indicated the truck operated by a 22-year-old male from Gillett was traveling east on Highway 22 when it entered the south ditch and overturned. The driver and lone occupant was ejected and died at the scene from his injuries, Skarban said.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Skarban said his office received assistance from the Gillett Police Department, Town of Gillett Fire Department, Gillett Area Ambulance Service, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
