Gerald E. Ashenbrenner

Gerald E. Ashenbrenner, 85, of Tigerton, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at Evergreen Nursing Home in Shawano, under the care of his family and Theda Care Hospice.
Gerald was born June 3, 1934, in Pella, the son of the late Ernest and Ethel (Salzman) Ashenbrenner. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving from 1956 to 1959.

On Aug. 5, 1961, Gerald was united in marriage to Doris Kubicki at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Milwaukee. She survives.

Gerald was employed at American Motors for many years until his retirement in 1982. The family then moved to the Town of Morris. Gerald could not stay retired and needed to keep busy, so he worked at Schoepke’s Farm and also drove garbage and recycling truck for the former DSI, now Harter’s Disposal.

An avid outdoorsman, Gerald enjoyed working in the woods, woodworking, deer hunting and making maple syrup. He knitted, made many quilts and built doll houses. Gerald was an avid Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Doris Ashenbrenner of Tigerton; three daughters, Rebecca “Becky” (John) Kleczka of Green Bay, Ramona “Mona” Ashenbrenner of Shawano and Ronda Fudge of Birnamwood; five grandchildren, Lucas Ashenbrenner, Danielle Fudge, Charles Fudge III, Ashley Ashenbrenner and Johnny Kleczka Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Jazlyn and Coletyn Herrera; and six siblings, Jeanette Konkol of Maribel, Ronald (Joanne) Ashenbrenner of Wittenberg, Shirley Marshek of Maribel, David (Dorothy) Ashenbrenner of Galloway, Leon “Tony” (Virginia) Ashenbrenner of Tigerton and Julane (Elroy) Matz of Pickeral. He is also survived by his aunt, Baeda Ashenbrenner of Shawano; Marine buddy Ronald (Pat) Formella of Pleasant Prairie; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Samuel Jordan Fudge; and two brothers in infancy, Wayne and Arlen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019, at Holy Family – St. William Catholic Church, Wittenberg. Father Matt Settle officiated. Burial was held at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Wittenberg, with military rites conducted by the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post #502. Visitation began at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.
