Election 2022 – Oconto County Board, District 20

The two top vote-getters in a Feb. 15 primary election are running for the District 20 seat on the Oconto County Board on April 5, representing parts of the Town of Oconto Falls and Village of Lena.
Buzz Kamke decided not to run for reelection after 24 years on the board. Keith Schneider and Richard Wood outpolled two other candidates, Timothy O’Harrow and Jerold Schoeder, to reach the April ballot.

Why do you want to serve on the Oconto County Board?
To use my leadership and problem-solving skills in improving county government processes. I’ve noticed a need for positive change and streamlining the process of growing local business and community. As a bar owner, I have daily contact with area residents and listen to concerns with local issues. I will be their advocate to improve our standard of living. I have a vision to promote our area as a destination for fun, recreation and relaxation.

What do you see as the biggest issue(s) facing the board over the next two years?
Getting new business and keeping existing business in Oconto County. This requires people who understand business and not making laws that unfairly burden our citizens. We need to work with area landowners and internet providers to bring much-needed service to residents and businesses. It’s important to keep current with educational and business technology. The board should keep communication open for residents with issues that affect their lives, including making meetings accessible for working residents.

In what area/topics do you believe you can contribute to the board and the county?
I’m available to hear concerns of my district and promote growth in our county. I have a reputation of getting things done and know how to work as a team. I think outside the box and work hard for positive solutions. Thousands of people travel through our “Gateway to the Northwoods.” With some effort, together, we can get them to stay a little longer, spend a little more and make lasting memories in Oconto County.
