SHIOCTON — The Bonduel High School boys and girls cross-country teams each earned second-place finishes at the Bonduel Invitational at the Navarino Nature Center on Tuesday.

The girls team finished with a score of 63 behind junior Kara Troxel’s fourth-place individual finish. The Freedom girls finished first with a mark of 54.

The boys team earned a score of 86, only behind Freedom (56). Senior Carter Kurey led the Bonduel boys, finishing third.

Troxel finished the race in 22 minutes, 27.05 seconds.

“Probably the thing that went well the most was me going up the hills. I pushed through them all even though they sucked and were really steep. I just kept pushing through, hoping to get a better time,” said Troxel, who also noted the team had only been able to run at the Navarino Nature Center once this season (on Monday) before Tuesday’s invitational.

Juniors Kalleigh Schroeder (22:50.35) and Madison Kurey (23:23.49) also turned in strong finishes for the Bonduel girls, taking 10th and 12th, respectively. Junior Breanna Schnell (25:35.89) and senior Alexia Folkman (25:58.21) rounded out the team score, taking 28th and 29th, respectively.

“It definitely helps a lot,” said Wilson of how the strong finish will affect his confidence. “I’ve been out the last few meets with knee problems, so this really helps. I’m ready to get back into the racing and have a lot of fun.”

Junior Cameron Mauel (18:40.23) landed in eighth, while sophomores Cody Carrico (19:54.06) and Josh Wilson (20:01.49) took 21st and 24th, respectively. Sophomore Casey Ploederi (20:36.56) capped the team score, finishing 34th.
