Community gives to baby shower

More than 100 items were donated Jan. 24 to a community baby shower. Hanke’s Sentry Foods in Wittenberg hosts the annual event and uses the store as a drop-off point for donations.

Some of the donated items included homemade blankets, sweaters, hats and burp cloths. Some outfits and sweaters had been purchased. People donated snacks, diapers of various sizes and diaper wipes. Sandy Hanke, store owner and baby shower organizer, noted that one family donated a portable crib.

All of the items were donated to the Wittenberg Food Pantry, which serves the Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District. The items will be donated to mothers who need these supplies for their babies.

Hanke noted that it takes a lot of people working together to make this event a success and to help fill a need in the community.

“A strong community takes people working together, and that is what we did as a community,” said Hanke.
