College Highlights (May 20)

UW-Madison

Shawano Community High School graduate Brandi Gueths and the Wisconsin women’s rowing team competed at the Big Ten Rowing Championships on May 15.

Gueths was on the varsity eight team that placed seventh with a time of 6 minutes, 37.448 seconds.

After the races, Gueths was honored with a spot on the second team All-Big Ten.

UW-Stout

Pulaski High School graduate Kevin Ruechel earned two strong finishes while competing for the UW-Stout men’s track and field team at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open on May 13.

Ruechel won the shot put with a top throw of 17.93 meters. The second-place finisher had a mark of 16.42 meters.

Ruechel placed second in the discus with a toss of 50.54 meters.

UW-Stevens Point

Menominee Indian grad Guadalupe Corn competed in three events while representing the UW-Stevens Point women’s track and field team during the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open on May 13.

Corn’s top finish with 14th in the shot put with a mark of 10.88 meters.

Corn also placed 22nd in the hammer throw (38.06 meters) and 32nd in the discus (25.28 meters).

UW-La Crosse

Oconto Falls grad Tucker Bouche pitched in two of the UW-La Crosse baseball team’s three WIAC Tournament games last week.

He was unable to record an out while facing three batters during the team’s loss to UW-Stevens Point on May 12. He got four outs in the team’s setback to UW-Oshkosh on May 13.

Winona State University

Wittenberg-Birnamwood graduate Maddy Pietz was part of several strong finishes while competing for the Winona State women’s track and field team during the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championship on May 12-14.

Pietz won on the first-place finishing 4x400-meter relay team that had a time of 3:53.32. She was on the 4x100 relay team that came in third in 47.31 seconds.

Individually, the Witt-Birn grad came in sixth in the 100 dash (12.24 seconds) and finished ninth in the 200 (25.13 seconds).

UW-Eau Claire

Suring grad Mitch Stegeman placed fourth in the pole vault while representing the UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field team at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open on May 13.

Stegeman cleared 4.84 meters to earn his finish.

St. Norbert College

Oconto Falls graduate Mason Sefcik pitched in two games for the St. Norbert baseball team at the NACC Tournament last week.

Sefcik pitched 5⅓ innings in the team’s win over Aurora on May 12. He allowed four runs on seven hits.

He got three outs in the team’s loss to Edgewood on May 14. He surrendered two runs.

Witt-Birn graduate Simon Stewart also pitched in the loss to Edgewood. He worked an inning and allowed one run.

Viterbo University

Gillett grad Lauren Herzog competed in the 3,000 steeplechase for the UW-La Crosse women’s track and field team at the NSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 12 and 13.

She posted a time of 14:52.73.
