College Highlights (May 13)

UW-Platteville

Pulaski High School graduate Kayla Lipsey placed eighth in the women’s heptathlon while competing for the UW-Platteville track and field team during the WIAC Outdoor Championships on May 6 and 7.

Lipsey placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.38 seconds and was sixth in the javelin throw with a top toss of 28.09 meters.

She also placed ninth in the 100 hurdles (17.37) and long jump (4.69 meters), 10th in the 800 (2:40.23), 11th in the high jump (1.36 meters) and 13th in the shot put (7.36 meters).

UW-Stout

Pulaski grad Kevin Ruechel had a big day while throwing for the UW-Stout men’s track and field team at the WIAC Outdoor Championships on May 6 and 7.

Ruechel had the top marks in the shot put (18.29 meters) and discus (50.18 meters) competitions.

He also placed eighth in the hammer throw (51.87 meters) and 24th in the javelin throw (37.61 meters).

Concordia University

Bonduel graduate Derrick Folkman ran in the 800 and 1,500 for the Concordia men’s track and field team at the NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 6 and 7.

Folkman finished 22nd in the 1,500 with a time of 4:57.66 and was 23rd in the 800 with a mark of 2:22.27.

UW-River Falls

Shawano grad Jewel Waupekenay played in all four of the UW-River Falls softball team’s games last week.

In a loss to UW-Platteville on May 2, Waupekenay posted a hit. She had another hit in the team’s win over Platteville later in the day.

Waupekenay was credited with a sacrifice in the team’s WIAC Tournament loss to UW-Whitewater on May 6. The team then lost to UW-Oshkosh in its second tournament game on May 6.

UW-Stevens Point

Menominee Indian graduate Guadalupe Corn placed 25th in the women’s shot put while representing the UW-Stevens Point track and field team during the WIAC Outdoor Championships on May 6 and 7.

Corn’s top throw was 10.78 meters.

UW-La Crosse

Oconto Falls grad Tucker Bouche pitched in three games for the UW-La Crosse baseball team last week.

In a win over Luther (Iowa) on May 4, Bouche retired all three batters he faced to seal the team’s victory. He picked up the win against UW-Eau Claire on May 6 after allowing one run across 2⅓ innings.

Bouche allowed two unearned runs in the team’s loss to Eau Claire on May 7.

Dubuque University

Gillett graduate Riley Engebretsen ran the 1,500 for the Dubuque men’s track and field team at the Dr. Tucker Open on May 7.

Engebretsen posted a time of 4:40.66.

Western Technical College

Pulaski grad Chase Reinke played in several games for the Western Technical College baseball team last week.

Reinke was dealt the loss against Rochester Community and Technical College on May 3. He struck out three batters and allowed six runs (five earned) over five innings.

He drove in three runs on four hits and scored four runs in a lopsided win over Minnesota West Community and Technical College on May 7. He had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs in another win over the same team that day.

Reinke tallied a hit in a win over Minnesota West Community and Technical College on May 8. He pitched 2⅔ innings and was tagged with the loss in a loss later that day.

Winona State University

Wittenberg-Birnamwood graduate Maddy Pietz won the 400 dash while representing the Winona State women’s track and field team during the Deb Schulz Open on May 6.

Pietz posted a time of 57.84 seconds to win the race.

UW-Eau Claire

Suring grad Mitch Stegeman won the men’s pole vault while competing for the UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field team during the WIAC Outdoor Championships on May 6 and 7.

Stegeman cleared 4.7 meters to claim the top finish.

He also took part in three other events, placing 11th in the 110 hurdles (15.75), 17th in the high jump (1.82 meters) and 22nd in the long jump (6.47 meters).

St. Norbert College

Lena graduate Kennedy Marquardt and Oconto Falls graduate Emily Gonnering helped the St. Norbert women’s track and field team win the NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 6 and 7.

Marquardt and the 4x400 relay team placed second in 3:54.02. Individually, she took 15th in the 200 dash (27.15).

Gonnering competed in two events, taking ninth in the javelin throw (29.99 meters) and 13th in the hammer throw (32.28 meters).

Oconto Falls graduate Mason Sefcik pitched in a loss for the St. Norbert baseball team last week.

Sefcik pitched eight innings, allowing two runs on 12 hits and no walks while striking out three. St. Norbert lost 2-0.
