College Highlights (May 12)

UW-Eau Claire

Suring High School graduate Mitch Stegeman and Oconto Falls’ graduate Autumn Canavera represented the UW-Eau Claire track and field team at the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 5-6.

Stegeman won the men’s decathlon, accumulating 6,351 points.

Stegeman placed first in the discus (39.67 meters) and pole vault (4.45 meters), second in the high jump (1.9 meters) and third in the shot put (11.98 meters), 110-meter hurdles (15.56 seconds) and javelin throw (48.51 meters).

He took fourth in the long jump (6.58 meters), sixth in the 100 dash (11.12 seconds) and ninth in the 400 (51.93 seconds) and 1,500 (4:56.29).

Canavera placed 11th in the women’s 1,500 with a time of 4:58.95.

Shawano grad Jacob Lacy played in 10 UWEC baseball games last week.

Lacy drove in a run on a hit during a loss to UW-Stevens Point on May 1. He doubled in a run in a second setback to UWSP that day.

The Shawano grad drove in another run on a hit, and also stole a base, during a win over UW-Stout on May 3. He tripled and drove in a run in a loss to Stout later that day.

Lacy came through with a hit, stolen base and run scored in a win over Saint Mary’s on May 4. He walked in a game two loss to Saint Mary’s that day.

Lacy walked in a loss to UW-La Crosse on May 5. He then drove in a run on a hit in a game two win over UWL. Lacy posted a hit in a setback to UWL on May 6.

UW-Platteville

Pulaski grad Kayla Lipsey competed in a pair of events at the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 5-6 while representing the UW-Platteville women’s track and field team.

Lipsey placed 13th in the 100 hurdles (16.65 seconds). She took 14th in the 400 hurdles (1:09.58).

Concordia University

Bonduel graduate Kalleigh Thorne participated in two events for the Concordia women’s track and field team at the NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 5-6.

Thorne claimed 14th in the triple jump (9.57 meters) and 17th in the long jump (4.65 meters).

Oconto Falls grad Katelyn Albrecht appeared in two Concordia softball games last week.

Albrecht got two at-bats and played third base in the team’s win over Alverno on May 7. She had one at-bat and played first base in another victory that day.

Bryant and Stratton College

Menominee Indian grad Wendell Waukau Jr. appeared in three Bryant and Stratton baseball games last week.

Waukau homered in the team’s loss to Morton on May 7.

Waukau had an at-bat in a loss to College of Lake County on May 2 and another at-bat in a setback to McHenry County on May 5.

St. Norbert College

Lena graduate Kennedy Marquardt and Oconto Falls’ graduate Emily Gonnering each competed at the NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 5-6 while representing the St. Norbert women’s track and field team.

Marquardt placed ninth in the 200 (26.95 seconds) and 12th in the 100 (13.45 seconds). She was on the first-place finishing 4x100 relay (50.52 seconds) and second-place finishing 4x400 relay (4:07.59).

Gonnering grabbed eighth place in the javelin throw (29.01 meters) and hammer throw (38 meters).

Pulaski graduate Emma Wiese pitched in the St. Norbert softball team’s loss to the Milwaukee School of Engineering on May 6.

Wiese allowed three runs on four hits over 1⅓ innings, while striking out one batter.

Bowler graduate Logan Thiex pitched in four St. Norbert baseball games last week.

Thiex worked a scoreless inning with a pair of strikeouts in a loss to Marian on May 2. He allowed two runs on a hit and walk while striking out one batter over two innings in the team’s win over Edgewood on May 3.

Thiex tossed a scoreless inning with a strikeout in a win over Wisconsin Lutheran on May 4. He was tagged with the loss after allowing an unearned run over an inning against the Milwaukee School of Engineering on May 6.

UW-River Falls

Shawano grad Jewel Waupekenay played in four UW-River Falls softball games last week.

Waupekenay was hit by a pitch in the team’s loss to UW-Eau Claire on May 3. She was hit by another pitch in a second loss to UWEC that day.

She played in both ends of a doubleheader against UW-Whitewater on May 4. In the second game, she singled, was hit by a pitch, stole two bases and scored a run.

UW-La Crosse

Oconto Falls graduate Tucker Bouche pitched in two contests for the UW-La Crosse baseball team last week.

Bouche worked a scoreless inning in the team’s win over Luther on May 2, retiring all three batters he faced. He then got an out to finish off an inning in a setback to UW-Eau Claire on May 5.

UW-Stevens Point

Menominee Indian grad Guadalupe Corn represented the UW-Stevens Point women’s track and field team at the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 5-6.

Corn placed 10th in the shot put (11.97 meters) and 19th in the hammer throw (42.79 meters).

Pulaski grad Gabrielle DeCleene appeared in three UWSP softball games last week.

DeCleene walked in the team’s win over UW-Oshkosh on May 3. She walked in the team’s win over UW-Stout on May 7 and got another at-bat in another win over Stout that day.

Ripon College

Gillett graduate Angela Mosconi won the women’s 5,000-meter run while representing the Ripon women’s track and field team during the Ripon Spring Showdown on May 6.

Mosconi turned in a time of 19:52.58, over two minutes faster than the other runner in the race.

UW-Milwaukee

Shawano grad Isabel Roloff competed in a pair of events for the UW-Milwaukee women’s track and field team at the Horizon League Championship on May 5-7.

Roloff took seventh in the pole vault after clearing 3.63 meters. She finished 14th in the 100 dash (12.36 seconds).

Bay College

Oconto Falls graduate Jake Sager played in three Bay College baseball games against Minnesota Post Grad last week.

Sager pinch-ran in the team’s 4-1 win on May 4. He received three at-bats in a 6-3 win on May 6. He pinch-ran again in a 6-2 victory on May 6.
