Green Bay Packers Foundation invests in new pageant

The Green Bay Packers Foundation chair’s message to grant recipients was succinct. On Nov. 21, Wilson Jones told the 398 grantees gathered in the Lambeau Field Atrium that “the Green Bay Packers appreciate what you do.”

Wilson conveyed that the foundation was created in 1986 by Judge Robert J. Parins “as a vehicle to assure continued contributions to charity,” with its goal being “to assist the many nonprofit organizations across the state that impact the well-being of Wisconsin residents.”

In 2024, they awarded $1.5 million to help meet their charge.

The Massachusetts senator sought to win state primaries with the ultimate aim of upending the entrenched system of party kingmakers choosing their presidential nominee in the backrooms of conventions. In the spring of 1960, Kennedy knew that it was Wisconsin voters who would decide if his play for the Democratic Party’s nomination for highest office in the United States would work.

College of Menominee Nation’s “Let’s All Speak the Language” video series entered its second phase this month. Through partnerships with MenominiYou and Speak Mahican, the first iteration of the multi-year project shared some classroom conversational words in both the Menominee and Mahican languages. This academic year, the series will offer learners a chance to master conversational terms in Oneida and Ojibwe.

CMN launches online courses with purpose

College of Menominee Nation President Christopher Caldwell said: “The charter for the college states that we are to serve Menominee people. It doesn’t just say to just educate those Menominee who live on the reservation.”

This fall, CMN furthers this mission by offering online courses to anyone who wishes to learn.

IPSI takes look at land-centered learning

According to Jennifer Gauthier, it’s all about the “ahkēw, the land.” The director of College of Menominee Nation’s Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) said: “That’s why we’re all here.”

The specific “here” claimed was the Indigenous Planning Summer Institute (IPSI), which was held on the CMN campus the first week of June.

The Menominee word mamātāweqtan covers a range of performance arts. It can be translated as an “exhibition, circus, (or) theatrical performance.” The word begins to capture some of the storied history of Menominee tourism to the famed Woodland Bowl.

CMN students do well at Minnesota conference

The word kenāēheqtam can be stated of any of the nine College of Menominee Nation students who competed at the tribal college conference last month. In English, the compliment translates as, “You did good” or “You are skilled.”
